Our Story
From team selection to visits, practices and everything in between! Find out how we came together, what the team has been through and what it has been like designing and building our robot.
Once upon a time...
Formation
There were over 200 students between the ages of 14-18 who applied to become a member of Team Nigeria FGC 2019, but only 5 would make it to the finals. In order to ensure the most competent and dedicated were chosen, all applicants were put through an intensive selection process that included Science and Math tests, collaborative engineering projects, interviews and an essay requirement. By the end of it all, Kosi Ugorji, Gbemileke Ogunrayewa, Isaac Ibidun, Toluwaniyin Ojo-Osagie and Sonia Bendre were finally chosen as members of Team Nigeria FGC 2019 in June.
Learning and Bonding
After months of rigorous training throughout the entire summer, our team has grown closer than ever. We have acquired and developed new skills such as 3D modelling (using Computer Aided Design), programming and robotic construction.
Additionally, we have bonded at educational excursions such as our trip to the Nigerian Bottling Company, Mikano International and many others.
Design and Construction
It took an admirable amount of hard work to assemble and program our robot.
Over the course of the building and assembly period, we had to familiarize ourselves with a myriad of construction tools and techniques. However, with the right amount of skill, dedication and faith, we were finally able to produce the final iteration to the best of our abilities.

Impact
And we continue to live happily ever after...
Members
The Country
The World
Each member has been completely immersed in the world of robotics and STEM as a whole. Gaining firsthand experience as designers, programmers and builders has helped guide our future career paths by giving us more insight into the exciting and fascinating life of an engineer.Â
Simply put, we have fallen in love with the art of creation.
As representatives of Nigeria, all of us on the team hope to use the knowledge and skills we have gained in order to propagate the economic development of our country.Â
This includes increasing STEM awareness and teaching others about applied science as we did through our Voice to the Streets outreach.
During this age of technological innovations, we have faith that our team will be at the forefront of scientific research and advancements, especially those that are sustainable and work hand in hand with our delicate environment.
In line with the 2019 FGC theme of Ocean Opportunities, we have engaged in a number of ocean-related activities and garnered a sense of appreciation for the aquatic ecosystem.
